Cantilever Ladder

A cantilever ladder is a rolling access ladder built with a platform, and sometimes the top several steps, that extend out beyond the wheelbase and support frame of the ladder. Unlike a standard rolling ladder, where the platform sits directly above the base, a cantilever ladder's platform is offset from the frame, letting a worker walk out over an obstruction rather than being held back by the ladder's own wheels and legs. To keep the cantilever ladder stable at it’s platform extended reach, the frame is counterweighted, and locking casters secure the ladder once it's rolled into position.

Companies add cantilever ladders to their facilities when a standard rolling ladder or fixed staircase can't get a worker close enough to the point of work. They are common in warehouses and distribution centers for picking or stocking above racking that has a lip, guardrail, or conveyor in front of it; in manufacturing plants for maintenance around tanks, presses, and machinery with obstructions at floor level; and in fleet, rail, and aircraft maintenance where a technician needs to reach over a fender, tank car, or wing.
