Retractable ramps take up less space in storage and are easier to transport. Usable width for these portable wheelchair ramps is 7⅞", and the lip is 4" long. The Americans with Disabilities Act stipulates that all buildings must be accessible to disabled persons; failure to comply may result in monetary damages and civil penalties. ADA rules and regulations state that for every inch of rise you must have a foot of ramp in length. Telescoping wheelchair ramps are available in 72" and 88" lengths.
