Operating a busy warehouse or manufacturing facility presents many material handling challenges. How do you keep the pace of work steady without overtaxing employees? Adding members to your workforce increases labor costs. Another solution may be to invest in better equipment. If your team is lifting and transporting 30 and 55 gallon drums, a quality drum truck is an affordable solution to consider.
The Heavy Drum Solution
Full (and even half full) steel and plastic drums are heavy. They often hit 500 lbs. and some may be as heavy as 1,500 lbs. One or two employees trying to manhandle a heavy drum, even if rolling it on its bottom edge is cumbersome and can be dangerous.
A heavy-duty drum jack is a great solution for keeping operations flowing and reducing the risk of employee injury. Most drum jacks have a manual hydraulic foot or hand pump for easy lifting, and some feature front straddle legs that provide access to lift drum’s off of a pallet. A steel jaw or other attachment mechanism keeps the drum in place during lift and transport.
A Variety of Drum Trucks to Meet Your Needs
Some models like the DRUM-55-FSP features a hydraulic hand pump and are sufficient when workers need to handle drums weighing up to 800 lbs. For heavier drums, the Vestil DCR-880-H can handle loads up to 1,500 lbs. A hydraulic foot pumps come standard on this model.
If you need to move a larger number of drums per day, you might consider a drum jack that has a DC powered lift. These models have the similar capacities and do not require manual pumping to lift the drum. Consider what the extra investment could do for your operation’s productivity.
